1) Don't Open Attachments!
That's it in a nutshell. MyDoom doesn't spread without your help. So if you receive attachments -- particularly unexpected attachments -- don't open them! If you're worried an attachment might be important, call to confirm that the sender intended to attach a file for you.

2) Install Antivirus Software
Spend the money for a name-brand antivirus software and keep it updated. You'll realize what a good investment you've made the next time a Big Email Worm appears, and you don't have to worry about a thing.

3) Turn off the Outlook or Outlook Express Preview Pane
The Outlook and Outlook Express preview panes can automatically launch viruses, before you even know you've received mail!

Under Outlook Express:

select the View menu, Layout option, and un-select The "Show Preview Pane" checkbox.

Under Outlook, select View: Preview Pane.
